The Emperor is a Tarot card associated with the beginning of Spring.
It represents a person who blazes trails and heads bravely into uncharted territory. Into the unknown. And we are, frankly, heading into the unknown. The Emperor is brave, and carries a fiery passion in their heart to Do The Next Right Thing. To fight for and protect those they love. They are determined. And in our current times, I want to evoke their courage.
But behind The Emperor stands The Tower, also known as The House of God in some decks. The Emperor is connected to Aries. Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, Mars is connected to the Tower. The Tower represents those points where we have isolated ourselves into a world of our own construction, convinced no one can help us, no one can reach us. We are stranded by our own shame, too embarrassed to ask for help, too contrite to admit we don’t have all the answers. We have finally reached a breaking point
Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is to ask for help, admit we are scared, or show our deepest love and concern.
To me, this is a challenge that faces our species (certainly not the only one). We must learn to be autonomous beings, but we must recognize our interconnection and need to care for and respect each other, or we are doomed to drive ourselves off a cliff.
One tool I use to cope with anxiety is Tarot. Because I feel like I can talk it out with the cards. Another tool I use to cope in times of stress is connection through sharing. I get comfort from a sense of community, and my default state is to be generous. This Emperor Livestream Tarot Circle will be free and open to anyone who would like to join. I’d love it if you contacted some friends and all watched together (remotely, of course.) We’ll talk about various symbols seen on many cards, ways of working with this card outside of Tarot, and some ways of “interviewing” the card to get to know it better. We’ll have a guided mediation for getting in touch with The Emperor in us all, and a time for q & a.
For those that practice astrology, Mars will be going retrograde in Aries this year for the first time in about 40 years. We all have Mars and Aries in our chart somewhere, and this is a great time to get a closer look at how these archetypes sit in your chart.
We are going to get through this wild experience.
Because the way out is through.
And to do it, we need to be creative and brave individuals, and we need to believe in our ability to collectively see and manifest a better way forward for ourselves and humanity.
