Bust out your natal chart and let’s ground into this moment.

Summer is a 3 month season focused on putting in the work and seeing the results of the processes we started way back in Spring. Summer is a season of claiming our Power, and the responsibilities that come with that power. We must foster, nourish, protect, and glorify whatever we have planted in Spring.
Summer contains the Sabbats Litha and Lughnasadh. Here, we have passed through the signs of Cancer and Leo, and now we approach Virgo. These Sabbats get us focused on the process of protecting, displaying, and organizing the results of the stuff we took the reins on and over saw while moving through the brightest part of the year.

In Litha, we received a sense of what work would need our attention, and we assembled the tools to do our work. We also came back to the spiritual heart, and got comfortable with what and who we wanted to hold close.

In Lughnasadh, we begin to engage the Harvest of our efforts so far.

In the first half of Lughnasadh, we began to engage the Harvest as it has manifested so far. We also came back to the spiritual noblesse and brilliance we all contain, and regally proclaimed what and who we want to hold up for presentation to the Gods.

Guiding us through the last four weeks of Lughnasadh and Summer is Virgo. This is a mutable sign that assists us in shape changing to prepare for entering the Dark Half of the year. Our experiences in the recent and not-so-recent past influence the changes we anticipate. Leo Season can leave us feeling blown out and a little cooked. Virgo is here to help us process and integrate what granular data we have collected in the field work of Summer. It’s time to make adjustments.

Virgo is dedicated to adapting the spiritual trajectory, and oversees this work through discriminating thinking, analyzing the subtle nuances of our process. Taking an organized, technical approach may be more helpful now as well as experiences that feel practical and grounded. So as we step into the functional roles that the second half of Lughnasadh and end of Summer may call for, we might seek out positions and environments that feel dutiful, efficient, and health-conscious.

Every year the Sun will pass through Virgo.

Every year (with occasional exceptions) we will have a New Moon in Virgo at some point, and a Full Moon in Pisces. Look at your natal chart and find Virgo. Look at the house or houses connected to this sign. The house/s the Sun is passing through is where, in your life, you might experience the themes of the Virgo portion of Lughnasadh season. And this will be true for you every year.

-The Sun represents our fundamental sense of self, our central purpose, and our creative potential.
Virgo represents our need and capacity to analyze, discriminate, and function efficiently.

So, in general everyone may find themselves more discerning, organized, and helpful during the end of Lughnasadh season. The New Moon in Virgo will help initiate some part of our Lughnasadh work by stirring up a desire for a more clear and conscientious attitude in leadership roles. The Full Moon in Pisces will help us resolve some part of our Lughnasadh work by lending us a more empathetic and humble viewpoint.

So, what’s happening in 2023 astrology when the Sun enters Virgo?…

This year, the Sun is oppose Saturn Rx in Pisces and square Uranus in Taurus as it enters Virgo. Oppositions can feel like we have come to a stand-still or a power struggle between two forces, and no one wants to budge or compromise. But the outcome of any opposition can be developing balance and integration of the opposing concepts. I say can be, because like all the aspects we encounter in astrology, it’s on us to do the work and make something out of what is coming up for us. This is especially true with Saturn oppositions.

-The Sun represents our fundamental sense of self, our central purpose, and our creative potential.
Saturn represents our capacity to create order, form, and discipline in our lives.
Uranus represents our unique individuality and our capacity to liberate ourselves from past limitations.

The last four weeks of Summer could bring events that are surprising challenges demanding changes we aren’t ready for. And, feeling stagnation in our support systems. The last four weeks of Lughnasadh is asking us to make sure and take the lead in your own situation some of the time. Find something to work on that requires focus. Allow yourself to experiment with unexpected methods or move in ways that are unusual. And, when the time is right, state your needs aloud and encourage others to do so as well. Allow folks to help you, but also listen to where your community is lacking.

Pisces is the sign opposing Virgo, so sitting in prolonged empathetic contemplation may be very helpful. And Taurus is a fixed earth sign, so whatever trouble Uranus stirs up, it is strengthened by embodying and living out the lessons learned.

At the moment the Sun enters Virgo this year, the Moon is in Scorpio. This year, the end of Lughnasadh season may have an extra element of emotional depth and intuitive sensitivity when it comes to community needs. All forms of magick, spell casting, group ritual, divination and communal sharing of power are especially potent magicks this year throughout Lughnasadh.

While the Sun is passing through Virgo, it is under the rulership of Mercury.
What’s goin on with that planet?

We find Mercury in Virgo, behind the Sun, hanging out with Mars. At the moment the Sun enters Virgo, Mercury is about 11 hours away from stationing Retrograde. At this point in Mercury’s journey, it is a beautiful evening star in the West just after Sunset…
